The Floors Are In and Level!

The flooring in in!!!!! What a mess it created! I opened the library door and entered the fog. It is everywhere.

My floors were not level. Black Bart, as well as the other machines, need level floors. To do that, they grind off the high spots and fill the low spots. All that grey is fill.

We decided to replace the flooring in the family room side of the basement as well. It had a terribly low spot that "gave" when you walked over the laminate.

Dear Daughter to the rescue. She removed all of the old flooring and the shoe moulding as well. Multiple people helped transport all that flooring up the steep side driveway. My neighbors loaned me their trash dumpsters to get it all taken away.

This is the family room after install. It looks so much better. The cabinet all the way to the right is a Murphy Bed as this room functions as our guest room. The closed door is to the bathroom, which also can function as a darkroom. I've removed most of the equipment and put a laminate countertop on the dark room sink.

A funny aside: One young man came to estimate something and I mentioned that it was a darkroom. He asked what a darkroom was. I'm not that old! Daughter is a photography instructor and was taught developing film in high school as well as college, and even taught it at the beginning of her teaching career.

By replacing the family room flooring, I could run it across the bottom of the stairs and delete two thresholds here, and a third one where the "back" door connects the two rooms.

You can see the new windows across the room with beautiful flooring and lighting. The windows are egress as required in a basement room. Dear granddaughter asked me if I was going to be able to get out those windows if necessary. I assured her that in case of fire I would be out some way. Later we went down and inspected the windows and she decided they weren't very high after all. She said she hadn't really seen them since she was much shorter and then they seemed a long way up. Don always kept the windows covered. Some of the train guys mentioned that they didn't even know there were windows until we were doing the tear down.

The last picture is looking into the fabric room - the closet for this room. It is so bright in here - all daylight settings - I should be able to pick fabric very well.

Next up: Baseboards, trim, doors. They are being delivered next week. I will be busy as I think I can stain the doors myself. I did all the finish work in the family room so it seems fitting to do these as well. The electrician also has more to do.

Today the duct and furnace cleaning crew is here. Then we attack the fine white powder that is over everything!

Happy cleaning, ur, Quilting,

Becky
