Help with Layout , please

















I'm not sure how blogger will put these, but let's call the far left one - A, then b, c, d, as they go down. I could use some help deciding on a layout for these blocks. They are happy blocks with train fabric in the middle, and the border fabric is also trains. There is a border for the bottom, I just couldn't reach it very well. It's a donation quilt for the V&T symposium - a group trying to rebuild the Virgina and Truckee Railroad, but they also are friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum. We go in a couple of weeks, so I need to get this one finished. I can't decide on a layout. If you would leave a comment on which one you like best, I would appreciate it. It is easier to see now that they are in small pictures, so I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

I like the one in the top right (with the diagonal layout) which ever one you decide on i am sure that it will be lovely!

Becky, I like B, top right the best. It has a much more balanced layout than the other two. Kind of a "streak of lightning" pattern

I like both B & C, but with a slight preference for B (that's my engineer's brain trying to organize things in an orderly fashion, I think).

I actually like the bottom right one best. I guess I like balance. The top right would be my second choice.

Personally, I like bottom left best. I like the crisscrossing yellows and blues, with the randomness of the whites and greens for interest. On the other hand, I would think railroaders would prefer top right. Obvious pattern and no crossing over which you wouldn't want with trains ;-)

Have you tried moving the blue blocks around? My "eye" would prefer to have the blue blocks scattered rather than grouped together in any attempt at a pattern.

FYI: The symposium donations are for the benefit of the Friends of Nevada State Railroad Museum who use it to support the Museum's collection, e.g., the upkeep and acquisition of original V&T artifacts, like the Inyo and #25, as well as other artifacts about Nevada railroading.

The group that is rebuilding the railroad from Virginia City to Carson City is an independent government multi-county commission, the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway, (NCRVTR). They have their own funding entities that are not associated with the Symposium or the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Thanks for clarifying about the symposium. They are usually both presented at the symposium, so I just lumped them together.

Becky, I like both B and C. If I used the C layout, I would switch the end blocks in the 3rd row. Looks great whatever setting you choose.

I really like the diagonal layout (B). with the train border make it look like railroad tracks to go on with it.

You might like to try the following link. It provides guidance, with worked examples, on understanding what the examiner seeks and writing in an academic manner. If in doubt can always ask tutors whether it's advice applies in your discipline and institution.

A Christmas wall hanging

This is the first fusible project I made. It was about 1994, and I didn't know to be concerned about how it turned out. The fused clouds are really heavy, and of course quilting didn't do anything for them as they are so stiff. I hand quilted the upper sky, trying to give definition. It was "birthed" rather that bound, so the edges remain puffy. Even with all that, I love this angel. My DIL's friend fell in love with it, and wanted one so badly, that for the next Christmas I made her one in teals. She loved it. Glacier Star with extension, or 488 geese later. . . .

The top is finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It needs a good pressing, then ?? I don’t know if I want to try to quilt it myself. I keep thinking of quilting designs, but I’m not sure I have the skill to carry them out. I don’t want to mess it up after 488 flying geese! If you look at the picture closely, it looks like the left side is brighter, almost like stained glass. It’s because of where it is placed in the living room, the only place large enough for the picture. Here’s the un-cropped photo. The DGK’s had moved all the furniture to the walls so they could build a fort. Works for me!    Happy Quilting, Becky
