Panel quilt guild challenge

Image
The guild has a challenge to make a quilt out of a panel. I had something different in mind, but this is what I could finish. It is a Quilt of Valor that will be going to a Viet Nam vet – way past time for them to be honored. The second picture is an open journal cover that DGD2 and I made for a gift for her mother. She’s drawn the P’s on it with permanent marker since she didn’t ask soon enough to piece one in. These are scraps from DD’s wedding quilt and DGD’s baby quilts. See more design walls at Judy’s site . Happy Quilting, Becky

Design was Monday 2-20-12

I used a pattern out of a modern quilt book and pieced this top for a QOV. DH said it was dull (he knows better than to say ugly), I’m thinking boring. There’s 2 more rows over the back side of Black Bart. I have the wave Circle Lord templates on Bart, but I’m thinking this will need spirals to become un-boring. I would have started last night, but couldn’t find any backing in the stash for it. I’ll go by Linda’s house today and she thinks she has something that will work. I have a bunch of backings, but the only one to work with these colors is a cream piece, and we’ve been warned away from that with QOV. I guess I need to make a trip to FabriQuilt (it’s here in Kansas City) and pick up a bolt of generic backing for QOV. I did have a large bright blue piece that I usually use on them, but it wouldn’t go with this soft turquoise.  It’s a little large for QOV – should end up about 70 x 90 before quilting, but the Kansas ones are for a returning group, so maybe someone can use it at...

Busy but finally mailing

The box is taped, labeled, and sitting by the front door for tomorrow's pick-up by our mail carrier. Four of these are out of the HeartStrings red-white-blue Chinese Coins project. The right top one uses some of the HeartStrings R-W-B swap blocks, and some other donated blocks. I nearly had heart failure when I was quickly hanging these for DH to photograph - one of the blue stars had run. Off it went to the washer and Synthropol - and it worked!! They are all washed, ready for cuddling. I still have the basket-weave top and another funky caterpillars top to put borders on, quilt, and bind. I decided to put these five, with pillowcases, in the mail to meet Alycia's deadline, and will finished the others soon. I forgot about labels, sorry Alycia. I meant to at least write on the quilts, but I forgot that, too. I'm excited about attending the Nebraska HeartStrings sew-in next weekend. We are going to the quilt study museum (it has a fancier name) in Lincoln on Fr...
