Sheetrock is finished

It has taken forever, but the sheetrock is now finished. This is the wall from the stairway. That's a display case of model train cars that Don built. Most of them are "Pickle" cars that carried Heinz products. I will also return some engines and other cars to this place. I had left the supports that held up railroad signal lanterns, but the "mudders" took them down and filled the holes.
The batting end of the narrow closet

This is the other end of the closet. Its narrowness is a result of that beam top left. The pink ledge will have wood / melamine on it. The end of it will be deep shelves and I'm considering grid wall above the ledge. I have grid wall upstairs on the ends of the cutting table, on the wall next to the cutting table and in one small closet and really like it.

I think I should have added another door into the closet at this end, but I took so long thinking about it that my electrician added an outlet on the other side. I wasn't going to ask him to take it out after I'd asked him to put it in. I'm not usually this indecisive, but this the the last remodel for me and I want to get it right.
Once again, the back wall - which is actually under the front of the house - with the refrigerator alcove with water for the ice maker, the laundry room with the blue sheetrock - water resistant- and the doorway to the fabric room. The laundry room will have a regular 36" door that opens in. Both of the closets will have barn doors. Their openings have been finished with bullnose like the rest of the room so it matches the rest of the house. The ceiling in this picture is the chase that holds all the wiring, plumbing and such for the whole house. I will have a host of ceiling lights.
The window wall and shelves corner are seen in this photo. The replacement windows come this week. We removed the crown molding at the top of the shelves and will replace it with a taller one that will reach the ceiling. Don's suspended ceiling was at the level of the crown when he built it. The columns all have outlets wired in.

The laundry room will have a different laundry sink, but the same idea. It will be on the pedestal to accomodate my height.
The fabric repository. I'm still thinking about how to best utilize this room as far as cabinetry. It may be big enough to have an island in the middle, or if that is too tight, a double cabinet inside the door  (that I'm standing in to take the picture). I think I want 18" deep shelves on 24" centers, with the bottom of each or every other column have 2-3 full extension drawers. I would love to be able to put the fat quarters in drawers right beneath the fabric that goes with it. For example, all the Kaffe fat quarters under the Kaffe yardage. I also have to figure out room for precuts. I do have 3 oak armoires that will be in the main room that will hold fabric, UFOs and tools.

Yesterday my daughter came and scooted around the entire floor and removed the baseboard in preparation for the flooring to go in. We are also redoing the floor in the adjacent family room, so daughter and I moved all the furniture except the player piano to the shop area. That will take out the thresholds between the 2 rooms and be a more cohesive look to the downstairs.

The flooring will be a big deal as the floor is so unlevel. I expect both grinding of high spots and filling of low ones. That changes the order of subcontractors - the floors will now have to be leveled before the painting can be done. Yesterday daughter also sanded most of the shelving in the main room, until the sander came apart. I went and bought the replacement part, but we couldn't make it work. Son - my mechanical person - is coming sometime today to see if it's fixable or if I have to buy a new one.

Enough for today. I so want to hurry this along, but waiting for subs is my main pastime. Very little actual sewing time this week.

Happy Quilting,
Becky
