Progress on the train room to quilting studio Jan 2026

I have learned that not much happens late in the year until Christmas is over.
This is what it looked like after the actual top of the train layout was gone. Friends in the train operators group were so helpful in getting everything removed. By the end of their work the only wall that remained intact was the one with all Don's pictures and the railroad lanterns. And the ceiling.

My son-in-law, Jason decided he would tear down the ceiling. He tried to talk me into keeping it, but I really wanted it gone. Underneath it, we found almost another foot of walls, so I will have nearly 9 foot ceilings down here. It will not resemble a basement when it is finished.

The picture is a little dark, but it shows the ceiling removed and the first 2 rows of can lights. There are plenty of circuits down there (see all the fascia lighting in above picture), so J is fixing it so I can have some of the lights connected, but some on different switches. (There are 8 of them right now).

The closets and laundry room have all been framed and the plumber installed the fixtures for the washer. He had a time of it as DH had put studs wherever he need them for the layout, so there were more than the guy had counted on. He had to work through a cabinet in the bathroom (about 14" wide)  to reach the vent pipe and a large enough drain.

They all decided that the washer / dryer should be in its own room with a door for noise control. Now I have another wall to hang quilts on!

HVAC should be coming next Saturday. They decided it was too cold and snowy to work this weekend. J will come and add the rest of the lighting as the ceiling chase has been framed now as well.

My job is to keep up with the cleaning (J helps a LOT with this) , pay the bills and deliver messages to everyone. My son is working on the hanging design walls and how best to put up supports for them. There is certainly a lot that has to be done before the sheetrock goes up.

If it will load, here is a picture  of the little ones who think the emply basement is really great!

I don't know how to include the video.

Maybe next time.
Happy quilting,
Becky
