Design Wall Monday–progress report


Batting hung out on long arm for the night to “stretch out”; backing cut, squared, washed in Synthrapol; top finished, pressed, ready to go. Circle Lord Spirals on Black Bart – it’s time to QUILT the Scrap Squad project!

I see I have something to learn here. I have never washed my backing, is that important. I am wondering- "squared" is that where you cut it into a square? How do you manage such a large piece of fabric?

excellent! Looks like a wonderful project, I loaded a quilt on my frame only to realize that my batting was too small. I will have to get to the store when the snow stops. Can't wait to see it quilted!

Timberline Log Cabin Opportunity Quilt Finished!!!!

"Timberline Log Cabin" is from Judy Martin's latest book. It's really nice that she gives permission to use her patterns for opportunity quilts. I fell in love with this pattern and Judy's color choices. I should have read the directions better - those logs finish to 7/8" wide. This finished to 96" x 96". I love LeMoyne stars, so this should be my quilt. It's too bad it is an opportunity quilt. I wonder how many tickets I would have to buy to be assured of winning it. I guess I'll have to make my own. My friend Rose and I ended up doing most of the work on this. The quilting was done by Don Sutcliffe. It has taken up most of this year's quilting time for me. I've only finished a few charity quilts and this. I hope to resume work on some UFOs and Christmas gifts now that this is finished. I turn it in Saturday. Help with Layout , please

I'm not sure how blogger will put these, but let's call the far left one - A, then b, c, d, as they go down. I could use some help deciding on a layout for these blocks. They are happy blocks with train fabric in the middle, and the border fabric is also trains. There is a border for the bottom, I just couldn't reach it very well. It's a donation quilt for the V&T symposium - a group trying to rebuild the Virgina and Truckee Railroad, but they also are friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum. We go in a couple of weeks, so I need to get this one finished. I can't decide on a layout. If you would leave a comment on which one you like best, I would appreciate it. The process of making a quilting studio out of a train layout room

My son asked if I was going to blog about building the Quilt Studio, so I thought I might try. I'm not sure I remember Blogger  - for instance how to change my profile - but here goes. These are pictures of Don's layout - the Stockton & Copperopolis Railroad. Don died nearly 4 years ago; his layout has only operated a few times since then and not at all for nearly 2 years. Layouts demand steady upkeep or they don't run well, if at all. Don had a will especially for his layout. We did follow his wishes as much as possible. I will be eternally greatful to all the railroad guys who came and took it down. The room now looks like this: Towards the family room The other side of the room with the windows. Now the process of turning this into the quilting room is starting. I met with one young man who is interested in the work, but he can't start until April. My son may be able to help with this - he knows different trades that may be looking for inside work for the winter....
