The last of the HeartStrings Chinese Coins - done, done.

This is the finished product of the red, white, and blue Chinese Coins project. This is the last one I pieced, and the last quilted. I used Circle Lord Baptist Fan templates to quilt it, and put Hobbs 80/20 Batting in it. The pillowcase has a matching cuff on it made from the last few of this group of coins. The backing shown below is some decorator 100% cotton that should look nice if someone doesn't like the front.

This is the last funky caterpillar, along with its pillowcase made from the same fabric as the backing. Both quilts will go to Alycia for her Quilt of Valor project whenever I can remember where her address is located.


I was so glad to finally have some finishes. I am so easily distracted that I start half a dozen projects, and then berate myself for not finishing them. I've started on two sets of blocks from a fellow HeartStringer that I want to set and finish for the Quilt Relief of Nashville. Their devastating flood did not receive much media coverage because of the oil spill, but their need is great. You can read more about it here. My mother was in the Missouri flood of 1993, and I remember her bringing out a package she had received in the aid boxes that were being distributed - it contained a new pillow, sheets, and a light blanket. She was so amazed that someone would send her that, and they were pink, her favorite color! I'm hoping I can finish enough for one family.

They turned out lovely Becky! I know what you mean about being distracted - I've been pushing myself to get some binding done on quilts that have been waiting a while. It feels good to actually finish a few completely.

What great quilts! Huge congrats on finishing up those Chinese Coin units ... as the recipient of the remaining units Mary had I KNOW how they just keep on going!! Good luck with your new project too :)

Help with Layout , please

I'm not sure how blogger will put these, but let's call the far left one - A, then b, c, d, as they go down. I could use some help deciding on a layout for these blocks. They are happy blocks with train fabric in the middle, and the border fabric is also trains. There is a border for the bottom, I just couldn't reach it very well. It's a donation quilt for the V&T symposium - a group trying to rebuild the Virgina and Truckee Railroad, but they also are friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum. We go in a couple of weeks, so I need to get this one finished. I can't decide on a layout. If you would leave a comment on which one you like best, I would appreciate it. Glacier Star with extension, or 488 geese later. . . .

The top is finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It needs a good pressing, then ?? I don’t know if I want to try to quilt it myself. I keep thinking of quilting designs, but I’m not sure I have the skill to carry them out. I don’t want to mess it up after 488 flying geese! If you look at the picture closely, it looks like the left side is brighter, almost like stained glass. It’s because of where it is placed in the living room, the only place large enough for the picture. Here’s the un-cropped photo. The DGK’s had moved all the furniture to the walls so they could build a fort. Works for me!    Happy Quilting, Becky

A Christmas wall hanging

This is the first fusible project I made. It was about 1994, and I didn't know to be concerned about how it turned out. The fused clouds are really heavy, and of course quilting didn't do anything for them as they are so stiff. I hand quilted the upper sky, trying to give definition. It was "birthed" rather that bound, so the edges remain puffy. Even with all that, I love this angel. My DIL's friend fell in love with it, and wanted one so badly, that for the next Christmas I made her one in teals. She loved it.
