I need a bit of help

I'm working with another set of Chinese coins made by a HeartStringer last year. I'm really enjoying this grouping as it is a nice change from the others. These did not play well with the others, but are beautiful on their own . I tried to load a larger picture so you could click it. If you do, you will see pink, toile in red and cream, toile in blue and buttery yellow, and a variety of reds, blues, and gold-browns. There are flowers and geometrics, with some damask roses thrown in. These do not say "hurly, burly man", but instead "girly girl". I just love them.

As I was trying them on for different projects, I remembered that Mary posted a picture of a basket weave HeartStrings quilt. I thought these would look good in that. When I measured out the strips, almost all of them were about 11-12" long, just right to make into 5 1/2" squares. I tried setting them as a basket weave, but there wasn't enough of them to make that work in the QOV size. DH had already said they were really busy. I played with them in EQ6, and came up with this setting. I do love things on point. Now for your input , please.

What do you think about the alternate squares? In the photo there is 1-a medium blue which has a paisley pattern to it, 2-a very light blue with silver specks (hard to see but in the second row of squares), and 3- a yellow piece in the center. I put the EQ drawing up there, and I think I might have enough of the yellow to do the center, but not the whole thing, and I don't seem to have a close enough match for it in my stash. What do you think about the blues? The medium is somewhat busy in person, but the light is very light. Light blue in the middle, Yellow as the outside? HELP!! Also, do I alternate directions of the striped blocks?? Your opinions, pretty please !! Thanks for any comments.
Happy Quilting,
Becky

I like the medium blue best and would use that if you have enough for the entire quilt. I would also alternated the direction of the string blocks rather than putting them all in one direction.

Looks great!

Those look like they may be some of my "coins". I agree.. I like the blues.

I like the yellow center and the blue around the yellow. The yellow gives the entire quilt more life!
I like how you have it set in the larger picture, with blue setting squares around the outside, and yellow on the inside. And I like alternating the tilt to the blocks in rows. Very very nice!

I like the paisley, it took me a while to even see the other fabric, it kinda disappears. And it is kinda girly. Nice quilt. I like all your coin quilts, great job!

Like the blue paisley. And it works with the yellow. My first choice would be all blue, second choice would be how you have it set in EQ. Also like the coins set in different directions... makes the quilt have more movement. Good luck...

Hi Becky, I am new to quilting so you might want to listen to more experienced folks, lol. I am trying to break out of my matchy-matchy syndrome also. I love the yellow in the center...makes it look girly. The blue is okay...but the yellow/cream makes it look old fashioned and cozy to me. I like the stripes alternated also. Either way, someone will be blessed to receive it. Nikki in Virginia
