Becky's quilt obsession

I finally started sewing a bit this week. I have the strip sets made for a double Irish chain twin size. I debated waiting until the item was finished before counting it, but I know I won't remember by then. I asked for suggestions for settings of 49 of these basket blocks. I worked up 3 in EQ. I still didn't like the blocks, no matter what I did with them. I just no longer "love" blues and mauves". I did what any self-respecting quilter would do - I sent them to someone who wanted them so she could finish it and donate the quilt to a worthy cause. It's one way to finish 15 year old UFO's. This week I busted stash by mail! I've stuffed 3 packages to send tomorrow to HeartStringers, and loaded bags with backing fabric for HeartStrings . That's approximately 35 yards out. I started a new spread sheet on everything quilty I've bought so far this year. Over $464 in two months; time for a reality check. Dang those Superbowl Sunday sales, and Connecting Threads closeouts. Interestingly, books and notions account for over $200 of it. I had to have, Judy L's , Bonnie's , and Judy Martin's new books, and a few more. What's a quilting bibliophile to do? If you look at my previous post, you will see the basket blocks (UFO) that I want to set. I have 49 baskets. I've played with it in EQ, and came up with these 3 settings. The first is with plain blocks, changing color to "border". The second is baskets set on point with sashing. I had a suggestion for triple sashing with nine-patch cornerstones which sounds good, I just don't know how to draw it in EQ. The 3rd choice is a strippy quilt. I couldn't draw the baskets on point, so you just see square in a square blocks. The borders on all three are not accurate at all. I couldn't find a lavender and blue fabric to use. Very old UFO This is one of my oldest UFO's. I made a shop sample of a basket quilt that had appliqued handles. The quilt shop owner said I could keep the leftover fabric, so I made another set of baskets. There are 49 blocks. I didn't want to applique all the handles, so changed it to a pieced handle. That changed the finish block size to 6.5". I later bought more of the blue flowers that is in the center of the big picture, and I found border fabric and have about 2 yards of that. I really need help with a setting for these. I took them out of the box where they have lived for about 15 years, and found some yellow fabric, and some squares of lavender fairy fabric cut for setting squares. When I put them up on the wall as a straight on point setting, it didn't work at all. So now I moved them to a medallion setting, and they still don't speak to me. Perhaps it is the blue and mauve I liked so much at one time, but not so much now. Please feel free to comm...

What's a girl supposed to do? It's been about 3 months since I visited a quilting store. I finally was told to start walking longer distances than just in the house, with support. The support could be a shopping cart! It was also Super Bowl weekend sales. I couldn't drive yet, so I just had to go wherever my friend took me. At the first shop (Eudora, KS) I picked up the fabrics in the left picture. Two of the greens are for stash (I sure use a lot of those lately), but the rest are for projects (UFOs) that I hope to work on soon. The second shop (Lee's Summit, MO), I definitely needed to add a few batiks for the Timberline Log Cabin bin to fill in fabrics with a little more blue that green. I don't want it exactly like the Opportunity Quilt I worked on. The right picture is 12 yards of wonderful fabric I bought through Stashbuster Fling-it. I couldn't resist these fabrics for $3-4 a yard. DH helped me set up a spreadsheet similar to Judy L's T...
